Iran: Two ships on fire in the Strait of Hormuz
A tanker has been hit by an “unknown projectile” in the Strait of Hormuz, according to the British military maritime traffic watchdog UKMTO.
At the same time, Iranian media are reporting that two other tankers are on fire in the strait.
The incidents come after the US and Iran have attacked each other for the tenth night in a row.
According to UKMTO, there have been several reports that a tanker has been hit by something in the Strait of Hormuz off the coast of Oman. According to a statement, the crew was able to escape the ship in lifeboats.
A few hours later, the state-run Iranian news agency Irib reported, citing the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, that two other ships caught fire after explosions after they “attempted to take the dangerous southern route through the Strait of Hormuz.”
“Full-scale war”
Iran attacked US targets in Kuwait and Bahrain overnight Tuesday, Iranian state media reported. The attack comes after the US carried out attacks on Iran for the tenth night in a row.
The US wave of attacks on Iran ended at 3 a.m. and, according to the US military command Centcom, several military targets were hit.
After earlier attacks on Monday, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said that his country is now involved in a “full-scale war” against the US, writes AFP.
Criticism in the US
Last week, at least two US soldiers were killed in an Iranian attack on Jordan. President Trump has told the media that the latest US attack was carried out “in memory” of the killed soldiers.
“Every time Iran kills an American soldier, they will pay many times over!” Trump writes on Truth Social, stating that the military government – from Secretary of War Pete Hegseth on down – has received this directive.
The minority leader in the US Senate, Chuck Schumer, writes on X that Democrats will force a vote to end the military operation against Iran.
“Every second that Trump prolongs this war is another second that our military personnel are in danger,” he writes.
