Today, Keir Starmer will give his last speech as Prime Minister.

Andy Burnham will then take over as the leader of the British people.

He will be the fifth in the post in four years.

Andy Burnham was elected as the new leader of the social democratic Labour Party on Friday. He was the only candidate after Keir Starmer announced his resignation on June 22.

During the day, both Starmer and Burnham will meet with the British King Charles.

Starmer will then formally resign – and Burnham will accept the task of forming a government and becoming the new Prime Minister.

He is then expected to appoint the ministers in his government. Names mentioned in the British media include former Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner, former Business and Trade Secretary Jonathan Reynolds and former Transport Secretary Louise Haigh.

Before Burnham moves into Downing Street, outgoing Prime Minister Keir Starmer is expected to give a final address to the nation.
