The tariff crisis Trump's tariff policy

Carney appeals: Bring US alcohol back to shelves

Canadian provinces may be on the verge of lifting their bans on the sale of American alcohol after an appeal from Prime Minister Mark Carney. The measure is said to be necessary to reach a trade agreement with the United States, writes Bloomberg.

But Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew is still urging Canadians to continue the boycott.

- Leave it on the shelf and buy Canadian instead, he said during a press conference in Winnipeg on Thursday.

According to Kinew, Carney has made it clear that a trade agreement with the United States depends on alcohol returning to store shelves.

Source: Canada's tariff agreement puts pressure on Mexico

Canada's preliminary trade agreement with the United States is increasing pressure on Mexico to get corresponding tariff relief, a Mexican official with insight into the matter told Bloomberg.

– The breakthrough gives Mexico something concrete to start from in negotiations with the US, says the source.

Canada has, among other things, reduced tariffs on certain steel and aluminium exports to 25 percent and on cars to 15 percent.

Mexico has so far focused on negotiations rather than countermeasures, but despite months of talks has not received corresponding relief.
