Middle East crisis Iran war

After the alarms: Now the aircraft carrier is returning home to the US

The US aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln has begun its journey home to the US, sources tell CNN.

The ship has been stationed in the Middle East as part of the US war on Iran. Last week, criticism of the nine-month mission exploded in the US media. Family members of the crew testified, among other things, to lousy food and widespread mental illness.

“They don't really treat them like people,” one of the crew members' wives told The Guardian.

According to information to several media outlets, several people have tried to jump overboard.

Yesterday, the aircraft carrier USS George Washington arrived in the Middle East. The idea is that it will take over the USS Abraham Lincoln's duties in the area.

Trump begins to take out his Iran anger on allies

The lack of progress in the Iran war means that Donald Trump has increasingly begun to take out his frustration on allies, writes the Washington Post.

He has threatened to bomb Oman if they "get in the way" of attempts to open the Strait of Hormuz, and published a map in which the area around the strait - including Omani and Saudi Arabian land - is called "new American territory".

On Thursday, Trump declared "economic D-Day" against Iran and promised "enormous consequences" for anyone who supports Iran in any way.

- You are either with us or against us, added his Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

According to experts, Trump has painted himself into a corner and is afraid that allied Gulf states will make an agreement on the strait with Iran without him.

- This is a problem that neither military force nor shouting will solve. When he cannot force Iran to change course, he takes it out on others, says Middle East researcher Andrew Leber at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.
