Newly appointed British Prime Minister Andy Burnham on Wednesday presented a plan to reduce homelessness in the country by Christmas.

During the winter, emergency accommodation and long-term housing support will be introduced around the country. The areas with the biggest problems with homelessness and housing shortage will receive the largest share of the increased allocation of 442 million pounds, approximately 5.72 billion Swedish kronor.

– No one should have to sleep in a doorway or outside a station, Burnham said in a statement.

According to official statistics, 4,793 people slept outdoors in England last year – a trend that does not look like it will reverse. According to the think tank Institute for Public Policy Research, the number could increase by 25 percent by 2030.

Andy Burnham took office a month ago after the resignation of former Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
