Attack on village by 100 settlers condemned

Over 100 Israeli settlers attacked a village in the occupied West Bank early Tuesday. Following injuries to three Israeli border police officers, the attack was condemned by the governments of Israel and the United States.

The settlers stormed the village of Jalud, in the northern part of the territory, as the military was escorting a Palestinian family—who had been driven out by settlers two months earlier—back to their home.

Three police officers sustained minor injuries when the Israeli military and border police attempted to disperse the crowd, according to a military statement.

The military reported that settlers blocked roads, set fire to tires, and threw stones. They also set fire to buildings and vehicles. The attack prevented the Palestinian family from returning home.

Both the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the US State Department issued statements condemning the attack.
