The Myanmar military carried out air raids on a marketplace in western Myanmar on Monday.
At least 33 people were killed, and around 40 others were injured.
Reports of the attacks come from the separatist movement the Arakan Army (AA), which states that a key bridge in the town of Kyauktaw was targeted in addition to the market.
The attacks took place in broad daylight in Rakhine State (formerly Arakan), one of the areas in Myanmar most vulnerable to and affected by conflict since the military seized power in a 2021 coup.
The AA militia, which is fighting the central government, controls large parts of the state, while the military junta holds control over certain towns. The conflict has forced around half a million residents to flee their homes.
The civil war has been ongoing since 2021, when Aung San Suu Kyi’s democratically elected government was ousted. Around 100,000 people have died in the conflict.
