The Hacker Attack on the FBI

Suspect in FBI breach investigated for commissioning murders

The 24-year-old man arrested earlier in September in connection with the investigation into the hacker group Shiny Hunters is also being investigated on suspicion of commissioning two murders abroad, reports the Dutch news agency ANP, citing Reuters.

According to sources, information regarding the alleged contract killings was found on the 24-year-old's laptop. It is unclear whether the murders actually took place.

The man was arrested in a police raid after Shiny Hunters claimed the group had stolen sensitive personal data from FBI servers.

FBI agents fear becoming targets following the breach

FBI employees are shocked and worried following the major data breach that appears to have exposed private and personal information about the agency's entire workforce, the BBC reports.

"This is very serious for our undercover agents," says a former FBI agent who is part of a group chat with former colleagues.

The hacker group Shiny Hunters has claimed responsibility for the breach, which occurred last week. The group is demanding that the FBI remove a warning about them and is threatening to release the material within four days if their demands are not met. Many FBI agents are concerned about the potential consequences and fear becoming targets for foreign powers or criminals they have previously investigated. "They could use this information to harass an FBI agent who has worked on their case," the former FBI agent tells the BBC.
