Hundreds of thousands of people filled the Champs-Élysées in Paris on Saturday to attend Pope Leo XIV’s open-air mass.
The American pope waved to the flag-waving, cheering crowd as the Popemobile rolled along the grand avenue toward the Place de la Concorde, where the mass was to be held.
The Vatican estimates that around 700,000 people took to the streets to attend the service.
In his homily, Leo urged those present not to keep their faith to themselves.
"Let it overflow, so that those you meet may find new strength and have their thirst quenched," he said.
The four-day trip marks the first papal visit to France in 18 years.
