Iran: Vi har fått ett svar från USA
Iran states that it has received a response to the ceasefire proposal it presented to the US over the weekend.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has returned to Iran from the UN General Assembly in New York. During a cabinet meeting, he presented a US counter-proposal to President Masoud Pezeshkian, according to Iranian state media outlets such as IRNA and Mehr, citing a government spokesperson.
Details regarding the contents of the counter-proposal were not immediately disclosed. The US has not commented on the matter.
Qatar has reportedly been mediating intensively between US and Iranian representatives in recent days. Iran had expressed a desire for a response by Tuesday at the latest, before its delegation was due to leave the US.
Iran initially proposed a ceasefire involving the resumption of vessel passage through the Strait of Hormuz, provided the US met certain demands—including lifting sanctions, ending the naval blockade, and releasing some frozen Iranian assets.
US President Donald Trump rejected this in an initial reaction, causing oil prices to tick upward again. Subsequent media reports suggested Trump might be willing to make certain concessions—claims he has strongly denied.
Iran has stated it is prepared to go to war again if the US does not meet its demands. According to new and unconfirmed media reports on Wednesday, Donald Trump is considering escalating matters again, though only after the US midterm elections this autumn.
