More than 110,000 have fled fighting in Yemen

A humanitarian catastrophe threatens Yemen—a country already severely afflicted by misery.

Over 112,000 residents have recently fled their homes as intense fighting has broken out between the Iran-backed Houthi movement and Saudi-led forces.

According to the UN, around 3,000 people have been forced to flee to Djibouti, across the Red Sea. The exodus is being driven by an offensive the Houthi movement is conducting along the Red Sea coast, according to the UN refugee agency, UNHCR.

Saudi airstrikes and direct military clashes with Yemeni government forces are additional contributing factors.

On Friday evening, the Houthi movement stated that Saudi Arabia had carried out 26 airstrikes within a 24-hour period and that the total number of Saudi attacks had reached 300 over the past week.

The previous full-scale war between the Houthi movement and Saudi-backed forces (2014–2022) claimed hundreds of thousands of lives.
