Hackers disabled refrigerated display cases in French grocery stores
Hundreds of grocery stores across France have had their refrigerated and freezer display cases hacked. The incident has raised concerns regarding food safety and forced retail groups to discard both fresh and frozen food.
The attack, confirmed by Paris prosecutors, affected several major chains, including Intermarché (which owns the Netto stores).
According to the French broadcaster BFM TV, the hackers managed to "activate the defrosting systems in a large number of stores."
Dominique Schelcher, CEO of the Coopérative U group, wrote in a post on X that the group has been affected by the attack since Sunday evening, emphasizing that the incident is "extremely serious" and "unprecedented."
He is joined by EU Agriculture Commissioner Christophe Hansen, who also condemned the attack on X, stating that "food safety requires more attention at all levels."
