Fraternities are barred from holding parties and other social events at the elite university Cornell for the remainder of the academic year. The American university made this decision following the suspected gang rape.

"These measures will make way for a fundamental review of how fraternities operate and whether they can continue their activities safely," says Cornell Provost Michael Kotlikoff in a statement.

The measure follows allegations by a woman that seven men raped her at a fraternity house on the campus in Ithaca, New York, in 2024. All the accused deny the allegations.

Cornell has faced harsh criticism for its handling of the matter. The woman reported the incident to the university police, but no criminal charges were filed. Consequently, she is now pursuing a civil lawsuit against the university and the men.
