Analysis: The election prompts Trump to tear everything down in 72 hours
In the span of 72 hours, Donald Trump has dismantled decades of American policy and incinerated 18 months of his own diplomacy, writes Anne Applebaum of *The Atlantic*.
Among other things, he has lifted diesel sanctions against Russia, repeatedly lied about a ceasefire, and accused Zelenskyy of being the problem in the peace talks.
According to SVT correspondent Carl Fridh Kleberg, the president’s sudden shifts are linked to the US midterm elections.
"American public opinion is heavily influenced by rising fuel prices, which ultimately drive up the cost of everything," he says.
However, Applebaum argues that it is insufficient to explain this simply as Trump trying to blame high fuel prices on Ukraine rather than on his own war in Iran.
"Instead, this looks like something else entirely: an abrupt 'Hail Mary' attempt to force Ukraine to surrender and rescue the Russian economy."
Democrat Omar after home search: I will not be silenced
Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar is hitting back after US authorities conducted a search of her home.
"This is an attempt to target political opponents and use federal law enforcement agencies as a political weapon. For ten years, Trump has attacked me with baseless lies and smear campaigns," she writes on X.
She adds that she will not allow herself to be silenced. Omar has been an outspoken critic of Trump and has, among other things, called for his resignation.
The search was carried out during the day after being approved by the Department of Justice in Washington. It reportedly took place as part of a police investigation, though the nature of the suspicions has not been disclosed.

Search of Democratic Representative’s premises – weeks before the election
US federal authorities have conducted a search of Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s premises in Minneapolis, according to several international media outlets.
"Today, Homeland Security Investigations executed a court-authorized search warrant granted by the Department of Justice in Washington," a Department of Justice spokesperson stated.
The raid was reportedly carried out as part of a federal criminal investigation, Politico reports. According to sources speaking to CNBC, the investigation concerns fraud.
Omar has previously been a vocal critic of Donald Trump, calling for his resignation on the grounds that he is unfit for office. She is running as a Democrat in Minnesota in the US midterm elections.
