Russian invasion Negotiations

Donald Trump on alleged ceasefire: "They agree – because I said so"

Last week, the US President stated that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to pause attacks on energy infrastructure. However, Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he had not been part of any such negotiation.

Speaking to reporters overnight, Trump maintained that an agreement exists between the parties, the *Kyiv Independent* reports.

"They have agreed. Do you know why? Because I said they have agreed."

Russia has not commented on the alleged agreement and has continued to attack energy targets in Ukraine. Trump claims both sides violated the agreement over the weekend but offers no evidence for his assertions.

Russia rejects Zelenskyy’s peace proposal

Russia is rejecting Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s proposal for a 60-day ceasefire to enable Ukrainian elections, *The Guardian* reports. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov claims that President Vladimir Putin does not want a time-limited ceasefire but rather a peace agreement.

Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also dismissed the proposal, stating that Zelenskyy "does not deserve" a pause in hostilities, according to the state-controlled news agency Tass.

Ukraine has repeatedly signaled openness to a ceasefire, but Russia has shown limited willingness to cooperate. US President Donald Trump claims both sides agreed not to attack each other's energy facilities.
