NATO reinforces presence in the Black Sea
NATO is sending “additional assets” to the Black Sea and to member states Bulgaria and Romania, following recent drone attacks in the region.
These assets include support for surveillance, reconnaissance, and the investigation of attacks, according to spokesperson Allison Hart.
“We remain united and ensure that we are ready and capable of addressing any threats,” she writes in a statement.
Bulgarian President Rumen Radev stated earlier on Tuesday that American NATO aircraft have begun patrolling the Black Sea, following a Bulgarian request for assistance in the wake of the drone attacks.
According to EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, Bulgaria and Romania have been subjected to six suspected Russian drone attacks in ten days—an occurrence she describes as “a dangerous and unacceptable escalation.”
She accuses Russia of targeting Ukrainian grain exports.
