Støre: US envoy to Russia tomorrow
US envoy Steve Witkoff is traveling to Russia on Wednesday for further talks.
This was stated by Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre following discussions with Ukraine in Oslo, where he and Finnish President Alexander Stubb reaffirmed their strong, ongoing support for Ukraine.
“It is crucial that we work together,” Støre said at a press conference alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President Stubb.
According to the three leaders, US envoy Steve Witkoff will travel to St. Petersburg on Wednesday for talks with the Russian side, during which proposals discussed in Oslo will be presented.
Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine has “clear ideas on how to achieve peace” and suggested a potential three-way meeting involving Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump.
“We shall see what Putin has to say about that,” he said.
The Ukrainian president was also asked whether Ukraine is losing the war.
“We are not losing the war. We are losing people. And time,” said Zelenskyy—who, following a recent period of frosty rhetoric toward the US, emphasized several times that he had received “clear, positive signals” from the American side on Tuesday morning.
“We have discussed security guarantees, and I am grateful that the American side has indicated they will be robust. We have various proposals.” "We mentioned NATO and its Article 5, as well as similar guarantees. There are other types of guarantees that Steve (Witkoff) will share with the Russians," says Zelenskyy.
"We are grateful that intelligence channels are functioning again, providing us with advance warning of ballistic missiles. We discussed Starlink and the Patriot systems, and he will get back to us on those."
Witkoff himself is not participating in the press briefing.
