Russia will listen to what the U.S. envoy brings back from the meeting in Oslo, but rules out political concessions.

“We shall see what they propose,” says Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, according to the state-controlled news agency Tass.

At a press conference in Oslo with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, it was stated that U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff is traveling on to Russia to discuss American and European peace proposals with Russian representatives on Wednesday.

“If they propose something that benefits us economically, then why not? But without any political concessions. Nor should we expect this to lead to a favorable situation regarding broader international issues. We must rely on ourselves,” says Lavrov.

Russia should not expect “a miracle,” he says.

“We must remember that the U.S. is, at best, a rival—and an enemy. They are not prepared for a fair contest.”
