The Saudi capital, Riyadh, was once again attacked by the Houthi movement from Yemen following days of assaults.

The Saudi Civil Defense Directorate states that a preschool and a medical complex were struck by shrapnel.

The Houthi movement claims that several targets in Saudi Arabia have been attacked amidst the escalating conflict.

Several explosions were heard in Riyadh on Thursday morning, according to AFP journalists on the ground in the city.

Saudi authorities also reported that a missile was shot down in a separate attack.

"Fragments of a missile fell in Riyadh after a ballistic missile was intercepted," the Civil Defense authority wrote on X. There are no reports of injuries.

According to Yahya Saree, spokesperson for the Iran-backed Houthi movement, a military airbase in Khamis Mushait and an airport in Najran were also attacked, AFP reports.

Saudi Arabia is in conflict with the Yemeni Houthi movement, which earlier on Thursday morning claimed to have once again attacked the major airport in Riyadh.

The Iran-backed Shia militia attacked King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Wednesday, as well as an international airport in the city of Abha. Three people were killed in those attacks. Fighting is raging in southwestern Yemen between Houthi forces and forces loyal to the country's internationally recognized government, which is backed by Saudi Arabia.
