Turkmenistan is serving as a hub over the coming days for key players involved in the conflicts in Europe and the Middle East.

Ahead of the summit of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Russian President Vladimir Putin met with his Iranian counterpart, Masoud Pezeshkian, in Turkmenistan on Thursday.

According to Russian state-controlled media, Putin stated that Russia is ready to do everything in its power "to bring an end" to the war that began on February 28, when the US and Israel attacked Iran.

The meeting between the two leaders also highlighted the close ties between Tehran and Moscow, which have intensified following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

Putin also noted that there is "positive development" in relations between Iran and Russia.

The network known as the Commonwealth of Independent States brings together several former Soviet republics. The meeting is being held at the resort town of Turkmenbashi (Avaza) on the Caspian Sea.
