Woman charged after jewel robbery, suspect released
A 38-year-old woman has been charged with involvement in the Louvre jewel robbery in Paris, Le Parisien reports.
She was arrested this week along with four other suspects. One of them has now been released without charge, the person's lawyers told the AFP news agency.
Two more men were arrested and charged on Wednesday with theft and criminal conspiracy after "partially admitting to the charges," according to prosecutor Laure Beccuau. The men are 34 and 39 years old, according to Le Parisien. The men are suspected of being the two who broke into the museum while two accomplices waited outside.
Several of the suspects appeared before a judge at a Paris court today.
Louvre jewel heist - the case is out
- Five people have been arrested in Paris on suspicion of involvement in the Louvre jewel heist, in which two of them have previously admitted involvement.
- The heist occurred on the morning of October 19, when the thieves stole eight priceless objects from the collection of Napoleon and the Empress.
- The thieves used a crane and angle grinder to enter the Apollo Gallery and fled on mopeds; their escape was captured on surveillance video.
- Police secured DNA traces on a moped and on equipment left behind, which led to arrests; some of the jewelry has not yet been recovered.
- The investigation revealed that the heist was an inside job, with a security guard sharing sensitive information about the museum's security system with the perpetrators.
