"Germany Pact" is to make Germans fast and modern
Europe's largest economy is to become faster, more modern and more digitized through a new "Germany Pact". This is what German Chancellor Olaf Scholz proposes during today's budget debate in the Bundestag.
- The citizens are tired of the silent service and so am I, says Scholz according to Die Welt.
The proposal is concretely about speeding up various processes by digitizing them and simplifying the rules for the expansion of roads, railways and housing, according to Die Tageszeitung. In addition, all applications for driver's licenses, housing allowance, parental allowance and the like must be available online by 2024 at the latest.
Last year, SR's Studio one described that Germany is Europe's economic locomotive, but that in the area of digitization it is at the "horse carriage development level".

Expert: The judges will have little effect on the Proud Boys
The sentences against high-ranking figures in the Proud Boys after the storming of the Capitol will have little effect on the far-right group, experts tell NPR.
According to Cassie Miller, an analyst at the advocacy group Southern Poverty Law Center, the Proud Boys continue to actively organize and recruit. Since the Jan. 6 storming, the group has gained more members, according to Miller.
- And the authoritarian movement of which they are a part has also continued to grow.
Late last night, the group's former leader Enrique Tarrio was sentenced to 22 years in prison for his role in the storming, the longest sentence handed down to date.

Top US prosecutors warn that AI could exploit children
America's 50 state attorneys general are calling on Congress to appoint an expert group to examine how AI can be used to exploit children through pornography. The letter has been sent to Republican and Democratic leaders, AP writes.
South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson has been responsible for collecting the signatures. He warns against various forms of "deepfake" videos, fake videos that look genuine. It can be of a child who has previously been exposed or based on an image taken from social media. New laws may be needed here, says Wilson.
A third danger is that AI is used to create entirely fictitious child pornography.
- The argument would be that "but I'm not harming anyone - it's not even a real person". But you are creating demand in an industry that exploits children.

Apple, Facebook and Google get stricter rules in the EU
The European Commission has published the list of the 22 companies that will be covered by the Union's new data act, DMA, which can have major consequences for the companies. The list includes Apple, Facebook and Instagram's parent company Meta, Tiktok's parent company Bytedance and Google's parent company Alphabet, writes Bloomberg.
In short, the law means that the companies may not repel smaller competitors in their field, track users outside their platforms without consent or make it impossible to uninstall certain apps or programs on the phone or computer.
Those who do not comply with the DMA risk fines of up to 10 percent of global turnover, or 20 percent for repeated violations.
The companies have six months to adapt their operations to the rules or take the case to court.
