"Great effect - even though the ban is temporary"
Russia today banned the export of diesel and gasoline with immediate effect. The ban is said to be temporary but no end date has been set, reports Bloomberg.
The news caused diesel prices to rise in Europe.
- Although this is only a temporary ban, the effect is large, as Russia is a key exporter of diesel to global markets, says Alan Gelder of Wood Mackenzie to Bloomberg.
The purpose of the export ban is to dampen the domestic price increases of fuel. Since the turn of the year, prices have risen by 9.4 percent, according to Bloomberg

Gasoline prices are soaring - now Russia limits exports
Russia is limiting its exports of gasoline and diesel to meet rising fuel prices in the country. Bloomberg reports.
"Temporary restrictions will help saturate the market, which will lower prices for consumers," writes the government's press department on its website.
The price of petrol and diesel in Russia has risen by 9.4 per cent over the year – more than double the average price increase.
According to Bloomberg, the export restriction may affect the world market, which is already having difficulty meeting demand.

Polish president denies ceasefire to Ukraine: "Was misinterpreted"
Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki's statement that the country should stop sending weapons to neighboring Ukraine has been interpreted in the "worst possible" way. This is what President Andrzej Duda says to Polish television.
- In my opinion, the prime minister meant that we will not transfer the new weapons that we are currently buying to Ukraine when we modernize the Polish army, he says.
In an interview with Polish television, Morawiecki said that Poland would focus on "defending itself, with the most modern weapons." Since the Russian invasion last year, Poland is one of the countries that has supplied Ukraine with the most weapons.

Poland, Ukraine hold talks on battle: 'Still have close ties'
Ukraine states that it has continued close and constructive ties with Poland, even though Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced yesterday that the neighboring country will stop sending weapons to Ukraine. This is reported by AFP.
Poland and Ukraine will hold talks on the grain battle that has broken out between the countries in the coming days. According to the news agency, the countries' agricultural ministers have agreed on that. The Polish government also states that it will send the weapons to Ukraine that have been agreed upon so far.
The conflict is rooted in the fact that Poland has banned the import of Ukrainian grain to protect domestic farmers.
