Spanish chaos: Firefighters spray fire on police officers

The firemen's strike in Spain was completely derailed.  

 

Films show firefighters clashing with police and spraying fire. 

 

Several people have been taken to hospital. Galicia's regional firefighters have been on strike since June to get better collective agreements. 

 

- Solution! Poor firemen, never again! chanted the 200 people gathered for Monday's demonstration in Orense.  

 

They then clashed with local police, reports ABC Galicien.  

 

Footage from the scene shows the firefighters spraying fire and trying to force their way into a municipal building while the police respond with batons and shields.  

 

They also threw paint on the building's facade and burned tires in the center of the city, according to El Pais.  

 

Several people were injured in the chaos and some of them have been taken to hospital with broken cheekbones and noses. 

 

If their demands are not heard, the firefighters are threatening to take "more serious measures", ABC reports.  

 

Can go on hunger strike  

 

Firefighter Ángel Moldes Garcia says they are willing to camp out in public places or even go on hunger strike until they are heard.  

 

The chaos in Orense is the latest planned mobilization by the striking firefighters. On October 27, they are expected to strike again in La Coruna. Next, Lugo awaits on October 31.
