Russia claims 'external interference' in airport mobs
Russia blames the anti-Israel riots at the airport in Dagestan on "external interference", reports AFP.
- The videos that show the horror in Gaza, how people are killed, make it very easy for enemies to take advantage of and provoke situations, says Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov at a press conference.
Peskov did not elaborate on what he meant by "external interference" or provide any evidence that it occurred.
Vladimir Putin has called a meeting with his closest men after Sunday's events. According to Peskov, the discussions should focus on "the West's attempt to use the events in the Middle East to divide Russian society".

60 arrested after storming - nine police officers reportedly injured
60 people have been arrested after the storming of the Makhachkala airport in the Russian sub-republic of Dagestan, writes Reuters with reference to the Russian news agency Ria. The people were part of the mob that surrounded a plane from Israel on Sunday in an attempt to access Jews.
Nine police officers were injured in the incident, two of whom have received hospital treatment, according to Ria. Local authorities state that a total of 20 people have been injured.
The local government in Dagestan states that it is "strengthening security measures" throughout the sub-republic, The Guardian reports. At the same time, the leader Sergei Melikov condemns the incident.
"There is nothing brave about mobbing unarmed people who have done nothing illegal," he writes on Telegram.
Israel's government says it is following the events closely and expects Russian authorities to act to protect Jews and ensure that the guilty are brought to justice. The United States "strongly condemns the anti-Semitic protests", writes the White House in a statement.

Witness from the airport: Don't look for "non-Jews"
Information that an Israeli plane would land in Makhachkala. It was enough for hundreds of Muslim insurgents to storm the local airport in the Russian sub-republic of Dagestan, the Meduza website said.
The authorities report that around 20 people were injured in the unrest, but have not given any information on which side they allegedly belonged to. Video clips from the scene, which the online site Meduza has seen, show a passive policeman who let the mob search the airport.
One of the travelers who arrived on the plane from Tel Aviv, tells the Telegram channel "Here is Dagestan" that he was confronted by around 50 people who demanded to know his nationality. He then stated that he was Russian.
- We do not touch non-Jews today, he received in response.
The mob reportedly searched parts of the airport that unauthorized persons should not have access to. Local authorities are said to have also offered three people to check the plane's passengers, this to calm the atmosphere.
Local authorities say they have opened an investigation into the violent riot.

US has no plans to send troops: "End of point"
The
US is working to ensure that the war between Israel and Hamas does not
expand into a larger regional conflict, says Vice President Kamala
Harris in the CBS program "60 minutes". She says that the US contributes with advice and diplomacy, but that there is a limit to the support:
- We have absolutely no intention or any plans to send combat troops into Israel or Gaza. End of discussion.
In the interview, Harris emphasizes that Israel has the right to defend itself. At the same time, it is important that Israel does not "conflate" the terrorist group Hamas with Palestinian civilians.
The stock of war must be adhered to and humanitarian aid must be allowed through, says Harris.
Host Bill Whitaker asks the vice president what her message is to Israel's arch-enemy Iran about entering the war. The short answer is:
- Do not do it.
