Violent riots in Dhaka - demand government resignation
A policeman was killed and more than 100 people were injured in Bangladesh's capital Dhaka on Saturday during violent protests demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The ruling Awami League party has been accused of rigging the last two elections in 2014 and 2018, writes Deutsche Welle. Hasina has also been criticized for violations of human rights and freedom of expression.
The protests, organized by the nationalist opposition BNP party, lasted for several hours. Police cars and ambulances were set on fire and hundreds of protesters were arrested. One of them was the leader of the BNP, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, writes Bloomberg.

Opposition leader arrested after the protests
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, leader of Bangladesh's main opposition party, has been arrested by police on Sunday morning. This is stated by his own nationalist party in a statement.
According to AFP, Alamgir's daughter confirmed the incident to the news agency.
During yesterday, large and partly violent protests were carried out by supporters of the nationalist party demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
At least one policeman and several protesters are said to have been killed.
