Parliamentary chaos in Albania – politicians lit smoke bombs
Great commotion arose in the Albanian parliament on Monday. This
when several opposition politicians tried to stop a budget vote by
lighting smoke bombs in the chamber, which led to a small fire, writes
The Telegraph.
The
background is that the opposition wants to establish a commission to
investigate corruption allegations linked to Prime Minister Edi Rama, AP
writes.
The ruling Socialist Party, which has a majority in parliament, voted in favor of the budget in the first of several votes.

The future of the EU
Orbán: Ukraine is "light years" from EU membership
Hungary sharpens its tone against Ukrainian EU membership. This weekend, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that Ukraine "is light years away" from becoming a member of the Union, writes Euronews.
Orbán criticizes the idea of starting membership negotiations with the country. During the EU summit in mid-December, Orbán and his Fidesz party will push back against such talks.
Critics speculate that the prime minister is using the Ukraine issue to be able to pressure the EU into something in exchange for a yes. All EU countries must agree on new member states, which gives Hungary a heavy veto on the matter.

von der Leyen is reviled on Hungarian billboards
On the night between Sunday and Monday, the Hungarian government put up billboards with insulting messages directed at European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, reports Reuters. The paintings are part of a campaign for next year's EU parliamentary elections.
The advertisement consists of a picture of von der Leyen next to Alex Soros, son of the Hungarian-born philanthropist George Soros. "Don't dance to their tune", is the message. A similar campaign was carried out against former Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker in 2019.
The atmosphere between Brussels and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán is frosty. As recently as Saturday, Orbán said that Hungary "must say no to the current European model developed in Brussels".
