The parliamentary election in the Netherlands looks to be a very even story, according to a new poll published by the newspaper Algemeen Dagblad. The right-wing liberal VVD, the social-democratic Workers' Party and the right-wing populist Freedom Party are basically equal in the survey.
On Monday evening, all party leaders met in a final televised debate before the election. The Guardian describes the mood as "grumpy" and notes that the party leaders often interrupted each other and disagreed on a number of issues.
Dilan Yesilgöz-Zegerius, party leader of the VVD, may become the first female prime minister, writes TT. The 46-year-old, who was born in Turkey, also has the chance to become the first in the post with a non-European background.
Today's government is led by the outgoing Prime Minister Mark Rutte, who was previously the party leader of VVD.
