Riots in Dublin after knife attack on school children
Violent protests have erupted in the Irish capital Dublin after three children were injured in a knife attack at a school, reports AFP.
After rumors began to spread on social media that the perpetrator has a foreign background, hundreds of people took to the streets, where they clashed with police and set fire to a number of vehicles.
Police Chief Drew Harris calls the insurgents "a completely insane hooligan phalanx driven by far-right ideology".
A five-year-old girl was seriously injured in the attack, and two other children and two adults were taken to hospital. One of the adults is believed to be the perpetrator, according to Irish police, according to The Irish Times. The motive is still unclear.

34 arrested - Dublin police expect more violence
34 people have been arrested after the night's riots in Dublin, says Ireland's police chief Drew Harris during a press conference, BBC reports.
He says that more arrests are to be expected, but also that the police are expecting more violence.
The riot was triggered after several people, including two children, were injured in a knife attack at a local school.
- These are scenes that we haven't seen in decades but what is clear is that people have been radicalized via social media and the internet, says Drew Harris.
According to the police, right-wing extremist motives are behind the riot.

Irish PM promises law changes: 'Not updated'
Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar promises to change several laws after the riot in Dublin on Thursday, according to Reuters.
The police must be given increased opportunities to use camera surveillance, and the legislation regarding incitement to hate crimes must be tightened.
- It is not updated for the internet age. And we need to get that legislation through within a few weeks, says Varadkar, according to the news agency.
According to the police, the riot can be linked to the right-wing extremist environment in the country.
