Taiwanese government upset over opposition's visit to China
The Taiwanese government is not happy about opposition leader Chen Li-wun's visit to China that begins today, writes RTI.
According to Prime Minister Cho Jung-tai, the visit risks strengthening the so-called "one China principle", which assumes that Taiwan and the mainland are part of the same nation.
- If the visit validates those ideas, the discussions will not, for obvious reasons, advance Taiwan's cause.
Taiwanese opposition visits China: "Trust must be increased"
Taiwanese opposition leader Cheng Li-wun is making an unusual visit to China today, writes AFP. There, she is expected to meet President Xi Jinping, among other things.
- Preserving peace is preserving Taiwan. Goodwill must be built and trust must be expanded, step by step, by both sides, the Kuomintang party leader said during a press conference in Taipei shortly before his departure.
The party is generally considered more pro-China than the ruling Democratic Progressive Party, but none of its party leaders have set foot in China in ten years.
