Italian Defense Minister Concerned About Escalation
Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto is concerned that the war in Iran could escalate to the point of using nuclear weapons. He said this in an interview with Corriere della Sera, according to Politico.
– Remember that it was people like us who considered that even Hiroshima and Nagasaki were acceptable to end a conflict. Unfortunately, we continue to have nuclear weapons, and those who do not have them are trying to get them. We have not learned anything.
When asked if he believes that nuclear weapons could be used in war, he replied:
– I don’t even want to say the word. The risk is madness, and what we are experiencing is a conflict where every action is met with an even stronger reaction.
The White House stated earlier in the day that the United States has no intention of using nuclear weapons in Iran, following Donald Trump’s threat that “an entire civilization will die tonight,” The Hill writes.
Democrats want to convene Congress after Trump's threat
The Democratic leadership in the US House of Representatives is demanding that Congress be summoned to the Capitol to vote on a resolution to stop the war in Iran, reports The Guardian.
"Congress must immediately put an end to this reckless war in Iran before Donald Trump drags us into World War III," writes Democratic Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries on X, in response to Trump's statement that "an entire civilization will die tonight."
Several Democrats have also demanded that the 25th Amendment to the Constitution be invoked, which could lead to Trump's removal, writes CNN.
Former loyal Trump supporter in the House of Representatives Marjorie Taylor Greene also wants the 25th Amendment to be invoked, according to Sky News.
“Trump was elected to go to war against the deep state and to end US involvement in foreign wars – not to kill an entire civilization while waging a war abroad on behalf of Israel,” Greene writes on X.
