Dubbla veton mot Hormuz-resolution
Published 18.09
When the UN Security Council voted on a watered-down resolution to open the Strait of Hormuz, Russia and China cast their vetoes. Other countries voted yes or abstained.
According to the AP news agency, the resolution probably would not have affected the war or the negotiations even if it had been voted through, as, among other things, formulations about allowing military action to open the strait were removed.
The resolution that was finally on the table “strongly” urged countries that want to be able to get ships through the strait to “coordinate their efforts, of a defensive nature.” The resolution also demanded that Iran cease attacking ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
