Angry Trump storms out of interview
Donald Trump interrupted an interview with the television channel NBC.
After the host questioned the president's claims, he stood up and left.
- Thank you, dear. Have a nice day, he said and left.
NBC's program "Meet the Press" was shown on Sunday, but the broadcast did not go as planned.
President Donald Trump was a guest.
The mood was not so good and it got worse. When host Kristen Welker questioned the president's incorrect claims about the elections and about the storming of the US Congress on January 6, 2021, he got in a really bad mood.
“I’ve had enough”
After a heated discussion that lasted about four minutes, Trump had had enough.
“Let’s end it here, because I’ve had enough,” he said.
He continued:
“Thank you, honey. Have a great time.”
Then he left the set, a studio set up in a barn in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, according to the Washington Post.
Trump was initially irritated when Welker asked him about the $1.8 billion fund he had tried to create to compensate people who claim they were victims of politically motivated lawsuits.
The Justice Department agreed to set up the fund as part of a settlement in the president’s lawsuit against the IRS, but officials later backed down after legal objections and criticism from Republican senators.
The president said on “Meet the Press” that he still wanted to set up the fund.
“If it were up to me, I would give them the compensation they deserve,” he said. “If it passes, it’s great. If it doesn’t pass, I’ll be disappointed.”
Trump: “Rigged election”
Star reporter Welker pressed Trump specifically on the question of whether the 172 people who pleaded guilty to assaulting police officers during the January 6 attack could receive compensation.
Trump did not want to rule it out, claiming that FBI agents let the rioters into the Capitol and that many pleaded guilty only to avoid harsher sentences.
– People had their lives ruined by corrupt police officers and by the politicization of the justice system, President Trump said.
– Many of these people should be compensated.
Trump then claimed that the 2020 presidential election and last week’s California primary were rigged.
Welker responded that there is no evidence to support that.
