Attacks between Iran and the US – explosions in Kuwait
Iran's Revolutionary Guards say they attacked "hostile bases" in the Middle East overnight, AFP reports. This comes after the US said it had fired at radar facilities in Iran and shot down drones sent towards the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the US military command Centcom, Iran has fired ballistic missiles at Kuwait and Bahrain. AFP reporters report that explosions have been heard in both countries, including near Kuwait's international airport.
The attacks are taking place despite a ceasefire in the war in Iran on paper.
Sources: Pentagon raises risk level for Israeli espionage
The US Department of Defense is increasingly concerned that Israel is spying on the US. The Pentagon has therefore raised the threat level for espionage from Israel to the highest, three sources tell NBC News.
According to the sources, the Pentagon suspects that Israel is monitoring US government leaders to find out how the Trump administration is thinking about the conflicts in the Middle East. In particular, whether Trump will resume fighting against Iran or end the war diplomatically.
A spokesman for the Israeli embassy in Washington denies that Israel is spying on the United States, saying that it focuses its intelligence work on enemies, not allies. The White House also denies the information.
