Trump: Not Thinking of Thawing Frozen Assets Before Agreement Reached

US President Donald Trump will not release frozen Iranian assets or lift sanctions against the country before a peace agreement has been reached. He tells NBC News.

However, he is considering releasing the assets after the parties reach a possible agreement.

– If they behave, if they do a good job, then we can start talking.

Previously, Iranian regime leaders have said that a peace agreement with the United States depends on the release of the assets. However, Washington wants to use the assets to pay for the damage caused by the war in the Gulf States, according to sources.

Several killed in Gaza on Sunday

Ten people have been killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza on Sunday, Gaza's Hamas-controlled rescue service said according to AFP.

Four people were killed in an airstrike on a vehicle near a school in Gaza City. In Khan Yunis, five people were killed in an attack on a police station, and another 17 were wounded. Early in the morning, a fisherman was shot dead by the Israeli navy, according to Al Aqsa Hospital.

The Israeli military said it was investigating the reports.

Both Israel and Hamas accuse each other of violating the ceasefire that has prevailed in Gaza for several months. Since it came into effect, more than 900 Gazans have been killed.

Israel Attacks Beirut During Current Ceasefire

Israel has attacked Beirut's southern suburbs days after a ceasefire agreement came into effect. This is reported by AP, among others.

According to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the attacks are in response to the Iranian-backed Shiite militia Hezbollah attacking northern Israel.

On Thursday, the two sides extended the ceasefire, in an agreement negotiated with the help of mediators from the United States. However, Hezbollah refused to join the ceasefire.

Israel has continued its military operation in southern Lebanon, where the IDF has both carried out drone attacks and entered with ground troops.
