Judge blocks Trump's decision to halt immigration
A federal judge in the US is blocking restrictions imposed by President Donald Trump's administration after a National Guardsman was shot dead by a migrant from Afghanistan in November.
Federal District Judge John McConnell said on Friday that restrictions imposed on citizens of 39 countries seeking asylum, work permits or citizenship violate the law.
The Trump administration has blocked decisions on immigration issues after the incident in Washington DC when an Afghan man with asylum is suspected of killing a 20-year-old National Guardsman. One person was injured.
The suspected perpetrator had been granted asylum in the United States in 2025 after serving in Afghanistan's US-backed army for ten years.
He has been charged with murder but claims innocence in federal court.
