Ukraine apologizes to Greece after an armed sea drone appeared near the island of Lefkas in May, reports Kyiv Post.

The sea drone was bobbing with its engine running when Greek fishermen discovered it in early May. When the vessel was examined, around 70 kilograms of explosives were found.

At first it was a mystery, but Greek defense experts were soon able to determine that it was a Ukrainian sea drone.

This week, Greece issued a formal protest against Ukraine. The vessel posed “a serious threat to shipping and could have caused the death of innocent people,” the newspaper Kathimerini said.

Ukraine has now apologized.

“The Ukrainian side (...) emphasizes that it was a result of circumstances caused by the ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine,” said Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Heorhiy Tychy.
