IDF: Iran has fired missiles at Israel

Israel's military IDF says it has identified missiles fired at Israel from Iranian territory. Reuters reports.

It is the first time Iran has fired missiles at Israel since the ceasefire between the countries came into effect in April.

Air raid sirens have been heard in several parts of Israel, according to the IDF. The military says Iran fired missiles in two rounds, and that the IDF has so far shot down all of them.

Earlier in the day, Iran threatened to attack Israel and US targets in the area, in response to Israel carrying out new airstrikes on the Lebanese capital Beirut.

"Iran has repeatedly warned that violations of the ceasefire and attacks on Lebanon will not be tolerated. The enemy has received its answer tonight," said Mohsen Rezaei, military advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, according to Reuters.

Israel will retaliate against Iran, an Israeli source told Reuters.

Revolutionary Guard: Start of a week of attacks

Iran's Revolutionary Guard says in a statement that tonight's attack is not the last. The BBC reports. On Sunday evening Swedish time, Iran fired missiles at Israel.

"This operation is the beginning of a whole week of continuous attacks," the Revolutionary Guard writes.

The Guard further writes that attacks on Iranian territory will be met with a "devastating and overwhelming" response.

A senior Iranian source tells Reuters that all US military bases in the area will be considered legitimate targets for Tehran if Israel attacks Iran.

Trump: Will tell Netanyahu not to retaliate

Donald Trump will call Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and tell him not to attack Iran, Trump tells Axios.

– We are very close to an agreement with Iran, I do not want it to be destroyed because of what is happening now, he says.

On Sunday evening, Iran fired missiles at Israel. According to Iran, the attack is retaliation for Israel's attacks on Beirut.

Iran's Revolutionary Guard has said that the missile attack is a "warning", and that more attacks are to be expected.
