“Must be ready to fight” – Germany warns of Russian attack before 2029

Germany must be ready for a Russian attack by 2029 or earlier. This is what the country's defense chief tells Politico.

– We must be prepared. We must be ready to fight, says Christian Freuding.

He also says that there is a consensus within NATO that Russia could attack a country within the alliance before the next decade.

According to Freuding, the threat has been taken seriously in Germany and the German defense industry has adapted accordingly. However, Freuding says that it is important not to focus solely on long-term weapons programs that take several years to develop before they can be used in the field.

Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant without electricity – powered by generators

The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in southern Ukraine is without electricity, writes the UN atomic energy agency IAEA on X.

The backup power line that supplies the nuclear power plant with electricity was damaged on Wednesday evening after fighting in the area. This happened despite Ukraine and Russia having agreed on a local ceasefire to be able to repair the main power line that was damaged in March earlier this year.

Now the nuclear power plant is dependent on diesel generators that provide power for the most important functions, such as the cooling of the six reactors.

There should be no increased radioactivity in the area, writes TT.

Taiwan rejected Chinese ships from “forbidden waters”

Chinese ships have entered the area around the disputed Taiping Island, which is controlled by Taiwan, for the first time. The Taiwanese coast guard said the ships were in the waters around the island for 15 minutes before being turned away.

Taiwan itself says the waters four kilometers off the coast of Taiping are “forbidden” to other countries.

In a statement, the coast guard condemned the incident and accused China of “harassing” Taiwan and its territory, AFP reports. China claims all of Taiwan as part of its territory and claims most of the South China Sea.

Taiwan, China, the Philippines and Vietnam all claim Taiping Island.
