UK Defence Secretary John Healey is resigning, he announced in a letter to Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

In the open letter to Starmer, which he “never thought he would write”, Healey announced that the resignation was due to disagreements between the two.

“You have been unwilling, and the Treasury has been unwilling, to allocate the resources that the nation needs to defend the country at a time of increasing threats,” Healey wrote in the letter he published on X.

John Healey is the latest in a series of British ministers to resign. As recently as May, the country's Health Minister Wes Streeting resigned, after he lost confidence in the party leadership and said it would therefore be "dishonest and unprincipled" to remain as minister.
