Trump secures funding for ICE until 2029

Donald Trump has signed the Secure America Act, which, among other things, funds the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency ICE until 2029.

The package of nearly 70 billion dollars, equivalent to around 663 billion kronor, was approved by the Senate on Friday and on Wednesday also received the go-ahead from the House of Representatives, writes the New York Times.

The package is seen as a victory for both Donald Trump and the Republicans in Congress to be able to implement the president's immigration policy.

ICE has also been heavily criticized in the US and triggered major protests in several cities during the year. The criticism increased further after two protesters were shot dead by ICE agents in Minnesota last winter.

According to new documents, the Trump administration is planning an aggressive construction pace for Donald Trump's Arc de Triomphe in Washington DC, reports the Washington Post.

The plan is for the approximately 76-meter-high arch to be completed within two to three years. To achieve the goal, the administration expects construction work to be carried out 20 hours a day, year-round.

According to construction experts the newspaper has spoken to, this would mean two 10-hour shifts per day, which is very unusual for a project that is not connected to an emergency situation.

“He is clearly in a hurry to get everything done before he leaves office,” says Matthew Bell, a professor of architecture at the University of Maryland.

Trump's triumphal arch must be equipped with warning lights

Donald Trump's planned triumphal arch in Washington DC will need red warning lights at the top. The US aviation authority FAA has determined this, reports Reuters.

The approximately 76-meter-high triumphal arch is not considered to pose any danger to air traffic at Reagan Washington National Airport. However, it must be equipped with warning lights because it will be in line with the airport's runway.
