Culture, environment and healthcare are among the criteria when The Economist selects the world's best cities. And that's where Sweden gets a beating from its neighbor to the south.

Sandwiches, red sausage and a 37-hour workweek. For the second year in a row, Copenhagen has been named the world's most livable city.

In The Economist's index, the Danish capital received maximum points for stability, education and infrastructure, reports the Danish news agency Ritzau.

Second place when 173 cities around the world were ranked was the Austrian capital Vienna, followed by Australian Melbourne in third place.

The rest of the top ten list is filled by Sydney, Zurich, Geneva, Osaka, Adelaide, Vancouver and Tokyo. At the bottom is Syria's capital Damascus.

The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) presents its list every year.
