US and Iran urged to return to ceasefire

Mediating country Pakistan, Britain and the UN chief are urging the US and Iran to return to the countries' agreement on a declaration of intent.

Almost a day after the US attack on targets in Iran, reactions are now coming from several quarters.

Mediating country Pakistan urged both the US and Iran to exercise restraint on Wednesday evening. "Pakistan urges all parties to stand by their respective commitments," the country's Foreign Ministry wrote in a statement, according to AFP.

The British Prime Minister says that the past day has been "undeniably challenging" and emphasizes the importance of the parties returning to a ceasefire.

- It is extremely important for the region and for the world, says Keir Starmer, according to the BBC.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres wants the conflict to be immediately de-escalated, according to a statement through his spokesman, AFP reports.
