Corruption in Ukraine
Alarm: Ukrainian shipping company nears bankruptcy

Ukraine's state-owned Danube shipping company is at risk of going bankrupt, documents seen by Kyiv Independent show. Last year, the company reported a loss of 7 million dollars.

The chairman of the board, Benoit Pleska, wrote a letter to the Ukrainian parliament in early May about his concerns. He warned, among other things, of a lack of corporate governance, corruption and resistance to reforming the company.

- I believe that strengthened corporate governance in Ukraine's state-owned companies is crucial for the country's future and to maintaining the trust of our international partners, he tells the newspaper.

The company has long had problems with corruption. Among other things, a former manager is suspected of trying to transfer a dozen ships to a company in Hungary, which would cause the company to lose 50 million, according to Pleska.

Sources: US bombed school despite several warnings

American commanders ignored warnings that intelligence regarding Iranian targets was outdated, which led, among other things, to the attack on a school where almost 200 students and teachers died. This is stated by several sources for CNN.

The attack on the school took place right at the beginning of the US war on Iran. According to the sources, the US military headquarters, the Pentagon, wanted to quickly identify Iranian targets.

– The Pentagon is pressuring everyone to work faster, says a source.

However, the intelligence information that was relied on was in some cases up to ten years old, which several commanders actively chose to ignore.

In the case of the school, it is said to have previously been part of a base for the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, but the two operations were said to have been separated as early as 2016.
