Murder of Charlie Kirk

DNA evidence on rifle may be questioned: “Doesn’t match”

The DNA evidence found on the rifle found in connection with the shooting of right-wing profile Charlie Kirk last year may be questioned by the lawyers of defendant Tyler Robinson. This is what the AP writes.

An FBI analyst testified during the ongoing trial about the methods she used to analyze the rifle, which was found wrapped in a towel.

– She cannot link Robinson to the questioned DNA traces, says defense attorney Michael Burt.

Assistant Attorney General Ryan McBride believes that the reliability could be tested if the case went to trial, writes the New York Times.

The Murder of Charlie Kirk—The Case

  • Conservative debater Charlie Kirk was shot and killed during a performance outside Salt Lake City on September 10, 2025.
  • 22-year-old Tyler Robinson was arrested two days later on suspicion of the murder.
  • Evidence against Robinson includes DNA on the murder weapon, surveillance footage, and a confession in text messages to his roommate.
  • The motive is unclear, but prosecutors point to Robinson's criticism of Kirk's views and messages that he had had enough of "hate."
  • The trial is ongoing, and prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
