Flávio Bolsonaro follows in convicted father's footsteps
Far-right politician Flávio Bolsonaro officially launches his campaign to become Brazil's next president.
In doing so, he follows in the footsteps of his father, former president and jailed Jair Bolsonaro.
At a party convention in São Paulo, the Liberal Party nominated 45-year-old Flávio Bolsonaro as its candidate for the October presidential election. Flávio took the same high-pitched right-wing nationalist tone as Jair when he thanked the party for its support.
In connection with the convention, Argentina's controversial leader Javier Milei said he supports Bolsonaro's right-wing candidacy, and attacked the incumbent left-wing President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
Jair Bolsonaro is barred from running in the election after being sentenced to 27 years in prison for attempting to launch a coup d'état. For health reasons, he is serving his sentence under house arrest.
