Car has driven into a crowd during Pridefest in Berlin – one dead and several injured

A driver has driven into a crowd in Berlin, German police tell Bild. One person has died and another 14 are injured, the police confirm. Several are being treated with life-threatening injuries.

The incident occurred during a Pride event in the Tiergarten park in central Berlin. The event was immediately canceled and participants were asked to leave the area.

A witness tells Bild that a white van drove into the park at high speed. Witnesses to the Berliner Zeitung describe how people screamed and fled in panic.

– A white van drove straight into the crowd, says the witness.

No one has been arrested yet. According to witnesses, a man is said to have gotten out of the vehicle and fled on foot. 

Massive police manhunt underway: “Searching for suspects”

A massive police operation is underway in Berlin after a driver drove into a crowd at a Pride event.

“We are intensively searching for suspects,” the police in the German capital wrote, according to Reuters.

Several people saw the incident and testify that panic broke out at the scene. According to Bild, several witnesses state that the driver left the car on foot.

At least one person has died and 14 people have been injured. It is unclear whether it was an accident or a deliberate act.

“We currently see no immediate danger in this area,” a police spokesperson told the Berliner Morgenpost at midnight Swedish time.

The spokesperson adds that the police operation is continuing at the scene, and that many roadblocks were set up ahead of the event to prevent just such an incident.
