Pakistan: Is it true that Imran Khan is being mistreated
Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan's family says he is being mistreated in prison, writes AP. They also believe that the authorities are denying him proper medical care.
His sister Uzma Khan was allowed to meet the former prime minister at a state hospital, where he was taken despite the country's Supreme Court ruling that he should be taken to the private Shifa International hospital. After the meeting, she said that Khan testified about how he was isolated, something he likened to mental torture.
The government denies the accusations and says the claims are taken out of thin air. The Information Ministry believes that Khan, who was arrested three years ago, is not being held on political grounds. Khan has consistently said that the imprisonment is politically motivated.
Pakistan's ex-leader taken to wrong hospital - supporters rage against government
The party of Pakistani jailed ex-leader Imran Khan has filed a complaint against the current government, accusing it of ignoring a decision from the Supreme Court, writes Reuters.
According to the court, Khan was supposed to undergo a medical examination at the private Shifa International hospital, but that did not happen. The authorities instead took him to the state-run PIMS, where he underwent a brief examination before being taken back to prison.
Khan's representatives also state that the former prime minister was not allowed to see his personal doctor.
When the popular Khan was arrested three years ago, major protests erupted in the country, and Reuters reports that the authorities' actions now risk breathing new life into the public dissatisfaction with the imprisonment.
