Increasingly difficult economic conditions for American households
Two years after Donald Trump won the election with a promise to fix the American economy, the situation looks anything but bright, writes the Financial Times.
The US national debt is at a record level, fuel prices are soaring, and mortgage costs remain high.
According to Eswar Prasad, professor of economics at Cornell University, the White House's fiscal policy is currently doing more harm than good.
- The president's outbursts of anger and his administration's attempts to intervene in the currency and bond markets indicate desperation, he says.
According to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, however, the American economy is on the right track and will eventually "grow out of the debt crisis".

Karoline Leavitt returns to Maga organization
Donald Trump's outgoing press secretary Karoline Leavitt will start working for the fundraising organization Maga Inc. She announced this on Friday, several American media outlets report.
The organization is a so-called super-pac, which means they can collect unlimited amounts of money that can then be used for political campaigns, writes TT.
It was in early August that Leavitt announced that she would step down from her role as press secretary for family reasons. On Friday, she said that she will miss the job but that she “loves her children even more,” according to NBC News.
Leavitt worked at Maga Inc between 2022 and 2024, before starting to work directly for the American president.
