Europe must better prepare for global warming, the EU urges.

However, the new measures are drawing criticism.

The new “framework for climate resilience,” presented on Tuesday, includes promises such as a new web service for monitoring climate threats, along with guidance on practical methods for dealing with the warming that the EU projects will reach at least 2 degrees by 2050 and 3 degrees by 2100.

“Europe is warming twice as fast as the rest of the world. We must adapt and learn as we go,” writes Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in a press release.

Not everyone is impressed, however.

“Far too vague. Climate adaptation cannot be done half-heartedly,” writes, for instance, Swedish Member of the European Parliament Heléne Fritzon (S).
